In 2012, Trayvon Martine a 17-year-old African American male was fatally shot by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old mixed race Hispanic. Zimmerman was acquitted on Stand Your Ground law in the State of Florida. Following Martin's death protests and media, speculation was ubiquitous positing that the underlying issue was the double intersectionality of race and gender.
